Eskom announces Stage 2 loadshedding from 17:00 to 22:00

It seems that Eskom is trying to avoid loadshedding at the last minute as it has just announced that Stage 2 loadshedding will be in effect on Monday evening.

Earlier today, Eskom requested that South Africans use less power during the morning and evening peaks warning that, “should there be further breakdowns in currently available capacity” loadshedding would need to be implemented.

It seems further breakdowns did in fact occur and now we have an evening of loadshedding ahead of us.

The good news (though the word good is doing a lot heavy lifting here) is that loadshedding is only expected to run this evening from 17:00 to 22:00. This could of course change but considering we’ve just come off of a week of persistent Stage 2 loadshedding, we’ll take whatever brief respite Eskom offers.

Earlier this morning Eskom reported that maintenance removed 3 049MW of capacity from the grid while unplanned breakdowns meant that 14 985MW of capacity is unavailable.

While we await more news from Eskom, we advise downloading the EskomSePush app to stay in the loop regarding stage 2 loadshedding in your area, as well as any further announcements.
