Grade 1 & 8 online applications open on 22nd July

Caregivers of children who will be in grade one or grade eight in 2023 need to take note of the important date of 22nd July 2022, as that’s when online applications will open for those in Gauteng.

This has been stated by Panyaza Lesufi, MEC for Education and Youth Development for Gauteng.

On Twitter, where Lesufi shared this message, he also provided a timetable for what will be done with the online system ahead of July.

Starting on 1st June information will start to be loaded into this system including Amended School Feeder Zones and required documentation.

After this registration and confirmation of schools and user details will be done followed by testing of the infrastructure.

We’re very happy to see that there will be stress and performance testing done here. Too often important government websites will not be tested and will simply crash and become inaccessible when they are opened to the public.

The performance testing here is also important as sometimes a site may be reachable but the page will be so bogged down by traffic that any navigation will take several minutes, which also results in an unusable website.

The full timetable from Lesufi can be seen in the embed below. Strangely something was included here right in the middle but then hastily removed with some black digital marker.

We’re not sure if this is some change to the plans or if the timetable is made for internal government use and Lesufi simply shared some of the public-facing information in this way and then tried to take out a section we’re not supposed to see.

More information about the online application process can be found on the Gauteng education website.
