Properly appreciate Deathloop with a new photo mode

We will never say no to an optional photo mode in a game, but Deathloop, with its amazing 60s-inspired retro future / James Bond aesthetic definitely deserves this feature and now it finally has it.

The photo mode is part of “Game Update 3” which also features news accessibility options and avatars on PlayStation 5.

“Express yourself with a wide variety of filters, stickers, poses and other customization options in DEATHLOOP’s brand-new Photo Mode. Available only in single-player, Photo Mode is accessible through the Pause menu in any map or by activating the Photo Mode shortcut (set to ‘P’ on PC keyboards by default),” the announcement reads.

To enable the shortcut on PS5, do the following:

  • “[Go to Options] > Controls > ‘Controller’ tab > Photo Mode Quick Access > Yes
  • Once in-game, double tap the ‘Create’ button (button to the left of the touch pad) on your DualSense to open Photo Mode.”

We particularly like the use of stickers here to create faux movie posters as you can see above. Again it’s very clear that Deathloop is inspired by many movies so pretending to make your own when in the game is only natural.

You can see some of how the mode works in the trailer below.

When we were playing Deathloop around launch we spent a lot of time trying to take some decent pictures of the unique, Hot Wheels-esque vehicles you can encounter. A photo mode would have made this endeavour much easier.

As for accessibility the announcement mentions that developer Arkane Studios took player feedback to implement new features for this update.

Apparently more than 30 improvements are available with accessibility options now available from the in-game menu. Combat difficulty, game speed, HUD, subtitles, menu navigation, cursor speed and more can now be tweaked by players.

The full patch notes for Game Update 3 can be found here.
