Having had to implement loadshedding due to supply constraints on Monday evening, Eskom has once again announced that Stage 2 loadshedding will be implemented during this evening’s peak.
Unfortunately, the outlook is not as cheery as it was on Monday with Eskom stating that higher stages would need to be implemented should there be further breakdowns during the day.
“Since yesterday evening, a unit each at Arnot, Grootvlei and Matla power stations either tripped or were taken offline for repairs. At the same time, two units were returned to service: one each at Kriel and Grootvlei power stations.
Because of these unplanned breakdowns as much as 15 762MW of capacity is unavailable. Planned maintenance today also sees 3 049MW unavailable to meet to demand.
Loadshedding is therefore necessary to keep a handle on the national grid and Stage 2 will be in effect from 17:00 until 22:00.
While Eskom hasn’t said that loadshedding could be extended into Wednesday, the outlook isn’t great and there are many hours between now and the evening peak where more breakdowns could occur.
As always we advise downloading the EskomSePush app to stay in the loop regarding stage 2 loadshedding in your area, as well as any further announcements.
With evening peak supply constraints persisting, Stage 2 loadshedding will again be implemented from 17:00 – 22:00 tonight, with the possibility of higher stages should any breakdowns occur during the day pic.twitter.com/b2ExoCzP1u
