The DJI Mini 3 Pro packs a massive punch and arrives in South Africa next week

DJI is back with a tiny drone that’s small enough to bypass regulations in many countries but don’t let it’s size fool you, the DJI Mini 3 Pro is packing serious tech and it could be in your hands as soon as next week.

That tech starts with the camera. Here DJI has installed a 48MP, 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor with dual native ISO and an aperture of f/1.7. This means you can capture video at a 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. Switch to HDR recording and the frame rate is limited to 30 frames per second but that’s a small price to pay for a more vivid picture.

The gimbal can also be rotated 90 degrees so that you can get drone shots for TikTok. Is DroneTok a thing? It should be a thing.

Perhaps more important than the camera is flight time and even though the DJI Mini 3 Pro is small it’s battery allows for a maximum flight time of 34 minutes. However, DJI also has an optional battery it calls the Intelligent Flight Battery Plus which extends the maximum flight time to 47 minutes. This will require an additional purchase.

This Mini drone is also the first to feature tri-directional obstacle sensing which help the drone avoid obstacles in flight. These sensors also enable Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems which give the drone a safer path around obstacles while in flight.

The drone maker is also releasing a new remote control for the drone if you don’t want to use your smartphone. The DJI RC is a remote control with a 5.5 inch touchscreen that has the DJI Fly app integrated. This is an additional cost but if you want to keep your smartphone free, this is a nice accessory.

As for price, the DJI Mini 3 Pro with nothing else in the box will cost R15 499 but this will only be available locally at the end of June.

The standalone drone is also not a great experience as you really need a few accessories.

Realistically speaking, the combo you want is the DJI Mini 3 Pro with the Standard Controller. This combo starts at R17 499 but Drone World has this combo listed for R17 494. Hey, a R5 saving is a R5 saving folks. Drone World reckons it will ship the new drones in just four days time.

The Flymore kits that are generally paired with DJI drones will strangely only be available at the end of June 2022. These packs include additional batteries, additional chargers and replacement rotor blades.

For all things DJI related we highly recommend checking out Drone World here.
