Wits 2023 applications now open with final dates in June & September

The University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) has now opened its doors for undergraduate students to study in 2023.

Between now and June / September (depending on the programme) applications may be done online.

The specific closing dates are as follows:

  • 30th June 2022 – Faculty of Health Sciences (all programmes); Bachelor of Architecture; Bachelor of Audiology, Bachelor of Speech-Language Pathology; BA Film and TV
  • 30th September 2022 – All other University programmes
  • 30th September 2022 – Residence applications

This leaves quite some time for applicants to begin the process which contains many steps. After choosing the programme(s) to participate in this needs to be followed by uploading of supporting documents, payment of application fees, a final submission and the accessing the self-service portal to continue and potentially accept a spot at the university.

The application fee is R100 but only for South African citizens. Those applying from outside of the country will need to pay substantially more with the fee increased to R700. Regardless of a student’s citizenship the fee is non-refundable and needs to be paid before the closing dates listed above.

Those considering the university should start their journey on the Wits application page here.

It contains just about all the information necessary for application including those important supporting documents. Those in Matric should also click on the “Documentation Checklist” which has two separate sections: one for those not yet matriculated and one for those who have.

  1. You may apply for a maximum of three programmes (order of choice does not matter).
  2. If you apply for two programmes within one Faculty, you are advised to apply for one programme in a less restricted faculty (e.g. Humanities, Commerce or Science).
  3. Try to keep your options open, especially when applying for programmes in Faculties such as Health Sciences or Engineering.
  4. Do not enter the duration of the programme. You are applying to go into 1st year of study.
  5. A non-refundable application fee of R100 for South African citizens, and R700 for foreign citizens, is required.
  6. For assistance call the Wits Student Call Centre on +27 (0) 11 717 1888.
