After all this time there’s finally a Black Adam trailer

A Black Adam movie has been on the horizon for the longest time but, finally, we have a proper look at it thanks to the very first trailer.

This movie continues the trend of taking characters who are traditionally villains in the comics and making them anti-heroes with Black Adam casually killing quite a few people just in these few minutes.

The Rock as the titular character is joined by quite a few other super-powered characters:

  • Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate
  • Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher
  • Aldis Hodge as Hawkman
  • Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone
  • Sarah Shahi as Adrianna Tomaz (may be the superhero / Egyptian goddess Isis)

The brief glimpses we get of the other heroes are good, especially of Hawkman.

As for the plot here it’s a bit thin but we can piece a bit together. The Rock is a slave in the past and is killed only to be resurrected as a superpowered being.

We have to laugh a bit at around 10 seconds into the trailer where the Rock hasn’t been given his powers yet and it’s clear they had to use CGI to tone down his muscles, but he still looks to be in better shape than most of the human population.

Awakened with powers Black Adam needs to decide what to do with them.

Thanks to one of the uploads of the trailer on an official Warner Bros. channel, we have a very short description of the movie.

“From New Line Cinema, Dwayne Johnson stars in the action adventure ‘Black Adam.’ The first-ever feature film to explore the story of the DC Super Hero comes to the big screen under the direction of Jaume Collet-Serra (“Jungle Cruise”). Nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the ancient gods—and imprisoned just as quickly—Black Adam (Johnson) is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world,” the description reads.

Finally the trailer ends with a theatrical release date of 21st October.

There are two things that are interesting about this: the first is that there’s no mention of any streaming options so this is theatres only for now, and the second is that this date is only for North America. On the DC Comics website a release date of 19th October is listed for the rest of the world.
