You can now add Google Password Manager to your home screen

We have long evangelised the use of a password manager and now an update for Google Play makes it easier to keep your passwords in tapping distance.

Android users can now add the Google Password Manager to their smartphone or tablet’s home screen. This makes it easier to access your passwords and access them using your on-device security measures.

Until now, users had to jump through a number of hoops in order to easily access this Google service as reported by 9to5Google. Now however, users can add a Google Password Manager directly to their home screen.

In order to to this you will still need to jump through a few hoops. First off, make sure that you are on Play Store version 22.18 or newer. To find this, head to the Play Store tap your profile picture, tap Settings and then About to see which version of the Play Store you are running. To update, simply tap Update Play Store.

Once you have done that, open the Settings menu on your smartphone or tablet then tap Privacy, then Autofill Service from Google and finally tap Passwords.

Once there, tap the gear icon to view the settings and then tap Add shortcut to your home screen. You can then drag the shortcut to your desired location on your home screen.

This is a really great option for folks who can’t spend money on a password manager but do want to take their personal security a bit more seriously.
