Destiny 2’s Solstice event starts on 19th July

With Destiny 2’s Season of the Haunted’s story wrapped up – at least we think it’s wrapped up – players are now looking to the next major event on the game’s calendar – Solstice.

Known as Solstice of Heroes in previous years, the event is notable given that it allows players to unlock new armour cosmetics that glow. This year, however, things are a bit different given that Bungie wants to mix up its event’s formula.

The first major change is the introduction of an Event Card. This card will organise objectives for all players so they have a clear path as to how to participate and earn rewards.

However, there is a bit of a downside to this. Players will be able to spend Silver (which is only available through real-money transactions) to upgrade the Event Card so that they can spend Event Tickets for rewards. While players will be able to earn Event Tickets without upgrading the card, they seemingly won’t be able to be spent without upgrading the Event Card.

The rewards for upgrading your Event Card include an emote and a Ghost shell among others and Bungie says that these rewards could be added to the Eververse store in future.

As for the event itself, Bungie has detailed the loop players will be doing for the event. Before that though, we need to look at the currencies this event will introduce.

  • Silver Leaves – Earned by completing activities throughout the game;
  • Silver Ash – Silver Leaves are turned into Silver Ash once completing the new Bonfire Bash activity. Silver Ash can be used to re-roll armour stats;
  • Kindling – Earned by completing Solstice Event Challenges. Can be used to upgrade armour stat roll potential (three tiers) and all Solstice armour is upgraded so no need to upgrade multiple sets.

This is looking like a great way to target farm certain armour slots and possibly create different gear sets for different activities. As for the glows, there will be free to earn glows, as well as glows that can be purchased from Eververse.

You may also have noticed mention of the Bonfire Bash activity. We know this will take place in the EAZ, but what it will entail isn’t clear. That having been said, the EAZ is a fun space and the Solstice event for 2022 looks like a good way to unlock new armour.

Solstice begins on 19th July at 19:00 SAST.
