Most of the Yakuza catalogue coming to PlayStation Plus

Sony has gone to the Yakuza well to bolster its game offerings for PlayStation Plus as it promises eight games from the series before the end of 2022.

Four of the games will arrive in August with the remaining four coming at an unspecified time later in the year.

“The acclaimed Yakuza series, incorporating the Kazuma Kiryu saga and latest entry Yakuza: Like A Dragon are coming to PlayStation Plus in 2022. Anyone who’s been intrigued by Sega’s long-running series will be able to experience its signature mix of crunchy combat, explorable districts, mini-games and fascinating storylines starting next month,” writes Adam Michel – Director, Content Acquisition & Operations – at Sony Interactive Entertainment.

The breakdown of the games, their release windows and what PlayStation Plus subscription they will be available for are all in the list below:

  • Yakuza: Like a Dragon | August | PlayStation Plus Essential / Extra / Premium
  • Yakuza 0 | August | PlayStation Plus Extra / Premium
  • Yakuza Kiwami | August | PlayStation Plus Extra / Premium
  • Yakuza Kiwami 2 | August | PlayStation Plus Extra / Premium
  • Yakuza 3 Remastered | Later this year | PlayStation Plus Premium
  • Yakuza 4 Remastered | Later this year | PlayStation Plus Premium
  • Yakuza 5 Remastered | Later this year | PlayStation Plus Premium
  • Yakuza 6: The Song of Life | Later this year | PlayStation Plus Extra / Premium

What’s interesting, when looking at the list, is that every single title here is on Game Pass right now.

The changes to PlayStation Plus and its various offerings were immediately seen as an answer to Game Pass when it was announced in March this year, but additions like this just make it more clear.

It will be interesting to see, going into the future, if Sony simply plans to continue retreading the same ground that Microsoft already covered. We’ll have to wait and see what the next big PlayStation Plus announcement is, and whether it’s wholly original or another duplication like this.
