The wait for Bayonetta 3 finally comes to an end soon

It has been close to a decade since Bayonetta 2 launched in 2014 and now, after all this time, we finally have a release date for Bayonetta 3. Or should we say we actually have three release dates.

According to a press release we have been sent the exact date varies between two key days depending on which version of the game you decide to buy.

  • Digital regular version: 28th October 2022;
  • Physical Trinity Masquerade Edition: 28th October 2022;
  • Physical regular version: 30th September 2022.

We’re not entirely sure why this split is being done, but let’s talk about the Trinity Masquerade Edition real quick.

The “trinity” part of the name here refers to the fact that the edition is an homage to all three Bayonetta games.

“Bayonetta 3 Trinity Masquerade Edition comes complete with a 200-page art book and 3 game cases, 1 for each Bayonetta title, that combine to form panoramic artwork,” reads a tweet from Nintendo of America.

To accompany the release date announcement and the reveal of the Trinity Masquerade Edition, there’s also a new trailer to be watched.

Unfortunately, due to the YouTube rules around embedding age restricted videos, we can’t just embed it below for your easy watching as it will simply contain a message asking you to instead make an account on YouTube and watch it there, which defeats the point of an embed.

So here’s the link to the new trailer.

Some elements of what we see here are explained in the description.

“Bayonetta struts through multiple locations in an all-new, over-the-top climax action game. Sporting a wicked new ensemble and somehow familiar pigtails, the titular Umbra Witch must face a mysterious evil using her signature guns and time-slowing Witch Time ability. This time, invading manmade bioweapons called Homunculi find themselves in Bayonetta’s crosshairs,” the description reads.

While the character models look a bit stiff here, it’s familiar Bayonetta gameplay on display with weird elements like a rideable crab spider and a train on a highway.

Things look promising and it’s just a short enough wait now after all these years.
