Twitter’s bot battle is going well but Musk looks to have lost interest

The fact that Elon Musk has grown so quiet about his acquisition of Twitter is rather concerning but the good news is that if he’s still interested, the social network is getting better at fighting bots.

This is because Twitter told Reuters and other media on Thursday that it removes over one million spam accounts every day. This is double the figure Twitter chief executive officer Para Agrawal noted in a thread he penned in May.

“We suspend over half a million spam accounts every day, usually before any of you even see them on Twitter,” Agrawal said in a Twitter thread at the time.

Despite Twitter now claiming it’s blocking more spam accounts, it maintains that these accounts still only represent fewer than five percent of users on the platform. As you may recall, Musk threatened to put the deal on hold pending proof of this figure.

On that note, Musk seems to have grown cold toward the idea of buying Twitter. A report from The Washington Post via The Verge cites three anonymous sources who claim that Musk’s party has stopped engaging in discussions around funding for the purchase of Twitter.

This comes after Twitter gave Musk access to its data stream last month. This stream would give Musk and the team he’s working with deep insight into what is happening behind-the-scenes at Twitter.

We now all wait to see what happens next in Musk’s acquisition of Twitter. With all this activity around the company, we wouldn’t be surprised to hear more news soon.
