Fortnite is known for its paid cosmetics but time is running out to get a freebie in the form of the Dish-stroyer Pickaxe skin.

This skin, which you can see in the header image above, was released to coincide with the launch of Fortnite on the GeForce NOW game streaming service last month and the deadline to claim the items is 4th August at 11:59 PM ET.

To claim this all players need to do is log into Fortnite via GeForce NOW and play the game.

“All GeForce NOW players can play Fortnite with touch controls on mobile (select iOS Safari + Android phones and tablets), with a keyboard-and-mouse on most GeForce NOW-supported devices, and with a controller on all GeForce NOW-supported devices. For more info, including how to link your NVIDIA and Epic account, see our GeForce NOW FAQ!” the announcement reads.

For those waiting for the catch that this costs money, well you’re only half right. That’s because GeForce NOW now does have paid membership options, but there’s also a free tier. Those who simply want to claim the skin can use this free tier with the drawback of a time limit and the need to wait in a queue but, after that, as long as you link your accounts as mentioned above and stream the game through the service, then you should be good.

The biggest problem here, however, is for those of us in countries where GeForce NOW is not supported. The fastest way to check is to visit this webpage and see if the membership options are available to you or you receive this error: “GeForce NOW is currently not supported in your region”.

To get around this you will need to break out a VPN and access things that way, but keep in mind that this could violate the terms of service of GeForce NOW and / or Fortnite.

While the deadline to claim the Dish-stroyer Pickaxe is 4th August the item will only be distributed on 11st August. Epic Games adds that it may take a few hours after 11th August rolls around for the gift box with the skin to appear for players.
