Latest lineup of Fitbit wearables set to land in SA from mid-September

The now Google-owned Fitbit revealed refreshed iterations of a trio of wearables this week in the form of the Sense 2, Versa 4 and Inspire 3.

All three devices are earmarked for release in South Africa next month, but before we share local pricing and availability, let’s touch on some of the improvements that have been made on these latest models.

We start with the Sense 2, which is a more holistic health focused offering compared to the sports/workout options in the Fitbit lineup. For this second generation, it delivers up to six days of use in between charges, as well as the ability to track heart health thanks to sensors that can detect signs of atrial fibrillation through the company’s ECG app and PPG algorithm.

Fitbit says these features are FDA approved, but we will need to wait for local health authorities and regulators to give the green light.

Next the Versa 4 is the latest update to a well known product within the Fitbit stable. For this edition, the company has added support for 40 different exercise modes. There is also built-in GPS for those who wish to track their runs or walks sans smartphone.

The company is also talking up the pairing of the Versa 4 with its Premium service, which opens up access to more data and metrics, along with 1000-plus exercises.

Lastly the Inspire 3 is the smart band/fitness tracker of the trio and aimed at younger customers or those who simply want all the basics covered in terms of Fitbit offerings.

This thin and lightweight option serves up to 10 days of 24 hour use, tracking steps, calories, sleep, stress levels and blood oxygen (SpO2). While the other options are a bit more feature rich and have the advantage of a larger display, the Inspire 3 does seem to address most fitness tracking requirements.

Now for pricing and availability. The Inspire 3 will be the first to land on 15th September locally and is recommended to retail for R2 499. Next the Sense 2 and Versa 4 are both arriving on 29th September in SA, with each retailing for a recommended R7 499 and R5 699 respectively.

Fitbit also points out that all three devices will come with six months of free access to its Premium subscription service, which offers more insights as to the fitness and sleep data you generate.
