Loadshedding makes an unwelcome return at 16:00

Eskom has announced that loadshedding at Stage 2 will be in effect from 16:00 on Wednesday afternoon until midnight.

The need for the power cuts has arisen due to a delay in returning generation units at Arnot, Koeberg and Kusile to service. There are also outages at Camden, Medupi, Grootvlei, Hendrina and Majuba power stations.

All tolled, 15 051MW of generation capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns while 2 931MW is unavailable due to maintenance.

Just last week Eskom experienced a massive lost of capacity at Kriel power station. The electrical faults experienced at the power station appear to have been caused by heavy mists. Eskom was able to avoid loadshedding then and again on Tuesday but it appears as if it can no longer stave off the need to implement loadshedding.

Stage 2 loadshedding will once again be in effect from 16:00 to 00:00 on Thursday evening as well.

As always, with loadshedding about, we advise downloading the EskomSePush mobile app on iOS or Android devices in order to stay up to date on what is happening in the country and your suburb when it comes to power supply.

Here’s hoping it’s only two days of loadshedding.
