Spotify is now selling tickets to live concerts

Spotify is looking to diversify its offering outside of music and podcast streaming, with the platform rolling out a new website dedicated to selling tickets.

Spotify Live Events as it is called, went live earlier this week and will redirect users from its platform to this new site instead of other ticket sellers in the past.

For now these shows and concerts are limited to artists performing in the US, but if you reside in that territory, you can purchase tickets via debit or credit card, provided you have a Spotify account.

It remains to be seen if this new feature will be rolled out to other parts of the globe or artists not based in the US that happen to be performing there, with it very much being a test for the music streaming platform at the moment.

“At Spotify, we routinely test new products and ideas to improve our user experience. Some of those end up paving the path for our broader user experience and others serve only as important learnings. Tickets.spotify.com is our latest test. We have no further news to share on future plans at this time,” the company confirmed in an official statement given to TechCrunch.

The publication has also found out that this test is focused on pre-sale tickets than actual sale ones, perhaps as the offering is still in its infancy.

It also looks like Spotify is hoping to branch outside of specific artists performances too, with festivals and other live and sporting events potentially being added down the line, provided this test is deemed successful.

How current ticket selling partners will feel about Spotify encroaching on their turf, however, is unclear for now.
