The LEGO Hogwarts Express pulls into South Africa at R8199

Last week LEGO revealed the most expensive Harry Potter set ever in the form of 76405: Hogwarts Express – Collectors’ Edition and now we know how much it will cost in South Africa.

The LEGO Certified Stores has updated its online platform to add the Hogwarts Express with the local price of the set coming in at R8 199.

Before judging that price we need to keep in mind what it costs in other countries. Below are the international RRPs along with their conversions to Rands at the time of writing.

  • €499.99 ~ R8 360;
  • £429.99 ~ R8 558;
  • US$499.99 ~ R8 219;
  • AU$799.99 ~ R9 198;
  • CA$619.99 ~ R7 929.

As we can see the local price is actually rather fair here in South Africa. Our pricing is usually based on the Euro and, using that as a metric, it’s comparable.

Also comparable is the launch date as other countries will get the set right at the end of the month on 31st August, which is also the South African release.

For your money you are getting 5 129 pieces that make a version of the train which is supposed to be 1:32 scale. The train section of this build is 118 centimetres long so you will need quite a lot of space to display this one.

“Familiar faces, old and new. How many do you recognize? The set features 20 minifigures of Harry Potter and his Hogwarts colleagues, including Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Remus Lupin, Ginny Weasley, Draco Malfoy and many more – including a Dementor!” the product description on LEGO.com reads.

Those 20 minifigures can be displayed inside of the train itself or on a separate smaller build to the side modelled on Platform 9¾.

Those who are on the fence about this set can look forward to reviews from the LEGO community leading up to that 31st August release, some more official than others.

We say this because the set was revealed to the world accidentally when several people were sent it instead of other products they ordered.

Because of this several fan-made reviews, such as this one on Reddit, have been available for some time now.

It seems bigger content creators are also getting their hands on the product with one just uploaded a few hours ago.
