Twitter to integrate podcasts via its Spaces platform

In a natural evolution of its Spaces platform, Twitter has decided to make podcasts available via a redesigned tab for those running the social media app on iOS and Android.

The redesigned tab, which has already begun rolling out to Spaces users, features a personalised hub called Stations. This hub is used to group similar content together and will collate podcasts that are focused on sports, music and news into one place for easier access and discovery.

“We know that some discussions need more than 280 characters, and bringing people closer to the ideas, content, and creators they know and love is core to Twitter no matter where the conversations take place,” explained Twitter about the move in a blog post.

“Our internal research indicates that 45% of people who use Twitter in the US also listen to podcasts monthly, so we’ll automatically suggest compelling podcasts to help people easily find and listen to the topics they want to hear more about. For example, if someone regularly interacts with Vox content on Twitter, they’ll probably see a Vox podcast in a Spaces hub,” the social media platform adds.

It therefore looks like the microblogging site that started in 2006 continues to evolve into something completely different. With a newsletter service also being added to the mix, it looks like Twitter is trying to shake off some of its echo chamber criticism from recent years.

“From Spaces and podcasts to newsletters and Notes, we’re working every day to improve the way people connect with creators and make Twitter the home of the most engaging conversations in the world,” the blog post concluded.

With its sale to Elon Musk now pending a court case, 2022 has been a very busy year for the platform.
