Disney+ arriving on South African Xbox consoles on 29th September

  • Disney+ Plus South Africa confirms the Xbox version of the streaming app arrives locally next week.
  • The app will be supported on the Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.
  • There is no word at this stage about a PlayStation version being available.

Ever since Disney+ launched in South Africa on 18th May, we have eagerly awaited the release of the streaming app on the Xbox and PlayStation lineup of consoles locally.

The wait is finally over, but only if you have an Xbox console.

With Comic Con Africa 2022 currently underway this weekend, and Disney+ South Africa in attendance, it has confirmed that Xbox consoles will receive access to the streaming app from 29th September.

The company confirmed in a press release sent to Hypertext that the console version of the app would be supported on the vast majority of Xbox consoles – namely the Xbox One, Xbox One S and Xbox Series X|S.

“Today, Disney+, the streaming service from The Walt Disney Company, announced that the streaming app will be incorporated onto Xbox consoles from 29 September 2022 in South Africa,” the press release explained.

Users will have access to high-quality viewing, up to four concurrent streams, unlimited downloads on up to ten devices, and the ability to set up to seven different profiles, including the ability for parents to set a PIN to access age-appropriate content,” it adds.

At the time of writing there is no word on whether PlayStation consoles can expect a similar arrival of the streaming app. We have reached out to Disney+ South Africa on the matter, and will share feedback once we have it.

For now though, it looks like Xbox owners have the edge over their PlayStation counterparts when it comes to streaming apps. Hopefully the wait for the latter will not be that much longer.
