Phantom Liberty will be the first Cyberpunk 2077 expansion in 2023

Ever since Cyberpunk 2077 launched in December 2020, the community has been asking for an expansion to make Night City bigger and to hopefully improve on the base game experience. We don’t know if the expansion will do that, but we do know it is called Phantom Liberty and it will release next year.

Details about the expansion are a bit sparse right now even though it was part of the most recent Night City Wire stream, and we have a trailer to go off of.

From the trailer it seems that, by all accounts, players by way of protagonist V become government employees. Not like postal workers or anything like that, think more James Bond.

Keanu Reeves returns as Johnny Silverhand to tell us that this is all a bad idea, as usual, and we get some vague glimpses at an upcoming conflict.

“Game Director Gabe Amatangelo… confirmed that a new cast of characters will be introduced in Phantom Liberty — who V will come into contact with inside a new location within Night City. Phantom Liberty is scheduled to release in 2023 for PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox Series X|S, and Stadia,” a press release sent to us reads.

While Phantom Liberty is what most people are excited about here, the focus of the Night City Wire stream was the anime Edgerunners. The stream was even called the “Edgerunners Special”, and for good reason.

The free Patch 1.6 for the game is focused on a crossover between the two Cyberpunk properties with elements from the anime being added to the game.

The full patch notes can be read here but the highlights are: three new missions, six new guns, five new melee weapons and a range of new wardrobe options.

“The highly community-requested transmog system, or Wardrobe, is now accessible from any of V’s apartments and safehouses. Players will have the ability to save up to six outfits that can then be viewed and selected from the inventory. Alongside this comes a cross-platform progression function, meaning saves can be uploaded to the cloud and seamlessly continued on a different platform,” the press release continues.

The Edgerunners crossover / Patch 1.6 also has its own trailer below.
