South Africa’s 5th LEGO store to open 1st October

Back in July it was revealed that South Africa would get its fifth LEGO store and now we have an exact date: 1st October 2022.

We already knew that the store would be opening in early October, but only now do we know that it will be the earliest in October possible.

The store will be based on the Mall of Africa and there’s reason to attend the first few days that the doors open.

“Join us on opening weekend for exciting giveaways and games in-store. And, get DOUBLE POINTS on your LEGO purchases at our Mall of Africa store for the WHOLE WEEKEND,” reads the announcement of the launch date.

The double points mentioned are part of the Brick Rewards Program that the LEGO stores use both in person and online through the webstore. Every Rand spent generates a point towards redeemable rewards. At 5 000 points, for example, a R250 cash back reward card can be redeemed.

The Brick Rewards Program is exclusive to the soon to be five LEGO stores and gives shoppers and incentive to spend their money there instead of other, more general toy stores.

This system also has exclusive sets that can’t be bought and are only obtainable through point redemption. The aforementioned 5 000 points can also be used for, again as an example, an exclusive set that builds a miniature LEGO store you can make and keep at home.

These double point events are one of the ways that shoppers can get those points faster which makes them worth keeping in mind.

These features are exclusive to LEGO Certified Stores and join other retail sets that can only be bought there and in-store experiences such as the Pick-A-brick wall and a station to build custom minifigures.

As mentioned the Mall of Africa branch will be the fifth LEGO Certified Store. The original South African store is in Sandton City, followed up by locations in Menlyn Park in Pretoria, Canal Walk in Cape Town and Gateway in Durban.
