Stage 4 loadshedding on Saturday with a switch to Stage 3 on Sunday

  • Stage 4 loadshedding kicks in at 05:00 on Saturday and Stage 3 kicks in at 05:00 on Sunday possibly lasting for the majority of next week.
  • Eskom has cautioned that it is struggling to procure bulk diesel which may lead to higher loadshedding.
  • 5 839MW of capacity is unavailable due to planned maintenance while 15 745MW is unavailable due to breakdowns.

South Africa has been plagued by loadshedding at Stage 6 and Stage 5 for most of the week and unfortunately there is little respite on the horizon.

This afternoon Eskom has announced that Stage 4 loadshedding will be in effect from 05:00 on Saturday until 05:00 on Sunday. Thereafter, Stage 3 loadshedding will be in effect for what looks to be the rest of the week.

“The capacity constraints will persist throughout next week, and current indications are that loadshedding will be implemented at Stage 3 for most of the week. A further update will be published on Sunday afternoon, or as soon as there are any significant changes.

However, the utility has also warned that it is unable to procure the diesel it needs for the Ankerlig and Gourikwa Open Cycle Gas Turbines. This could see as much as 2 000MW of capacity being unavailable and, higher levels of loadshedding.

Further more, generation units at Camden, Kriel, Majuba and Matla power stations were taken offline for repairs. As of time of writing, 5 839MW of capacity is unavailable due to planned maintenance while 15 745MW is unavailable due to breakdowns.

Only a unit at Hendrina and two at Kusile power stations have returned to service.

As always we advise downloading the EskomSePush mobile app to stay up to date with loadshedding announcements and schedules in your area.
