Bad news for South Africa, Eskom has announced that Stage 4 loadshedding will remain a feature for the weekend.
The power utility said that breakdowns at Kriel, Majuba and Tutuka power stations over the past 24 hours have resulted in a need to continue Stage 4 loadshedding throughout the weekend.
Stage 4 loadshedding will be in effect until Sunday at 05:00, at which point loadshedding will switch to Stage 3 until 05:00 on Monday. The utility says it will provide an update on Sunday regarding the outlook for the week.
Breakdowns and persistent shortages of generation capacity necessitate the continuous

“While some generation units are anticipated to return to service during next week, it is necessary to extend the loadshedding to replenish the emergency generation reserves, which have been depleted by extensive utilisation to limit the amount of loadshedding over the past two weeks,” wrote Eskom.
We shudder to think what would happen if Eskom wasn’t limiting the amount of loadshedding that has taken place over the last two weeks.
At time of writing 7 210MW of capacity is unavailable due to planned maintenance while a staggering 15 319MW is unavailable due to unplanned maintenance.
