Update adds Custom Game Mode to Subnautica: Below Zero

The What the Dock Update for Subnautica: Below Zero is now live with a host of upgrades and one of the most exciting is the Custom Game Mode.

As you can see in this screenshot of the options menu for Custom Game Mode, several parameters of the game mechanics can be tweaked to fit your liking. This should benefit both veterans of the Subnautica franchise who want to experience it in a different way, and for newcomers who may not like how certain parts work.

The highlights of the update, from developer and publisher Unknown Worlds Entertainment are as follows:

  • “Tailor your Below Zero experience with Custom Game Mode
  • Utilize an all-new Seatruck Dock base piece
  • Enjoy the most stable version of the game with tons of bugs squashed
  • Get yourself out of some sticky out-of-bounds situations with an Unstuck Button
  • Steam Cloud saves are back (yes, for real this time!).”

The Seatruck Dock seen in the header image above likely gives this updates its name and you can see more of it in the short trailer embedded below showing off the features of the update.

“Looking for a way to dock your Seatruck and its modules? We’ve got you covered! This brand new base piece will accommodate the Seatruck and up to five modules comfortably. No more chasing your modules around in open water. You can just easily get back to your adventures right from your base,” reads an announcement.

For those who haven’t played Subnautica: Below Zero, the game is currently 50 percent off on Steam. The game is also available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, but there doesn’t seem to be any sales running on those platforms right now. Game Pass also has the title available freely for subscribers.
