Pair of MSI RTX 4090s appear on Evetech starting at R48 999

  • Local retailer Evetech has a pair of MSI RTX 4090 available with prices starting at R48 999 with no discount applied.
  • Wootware also has RTX 4090 GPUs listed, but sans pricing.
  • The RTX 4090 launches on 12th October.

With the launch of the Nvidia RTX 4090 expected this week we have been eagerly watching local outlets for news on pricing and, well things aren’t great on that front.

While pricing for the Founders Edition of the GPU starts at $1 599 (~R29 069) in the US, that pricing doesn’t include tax, shipping costs and other fees associated with bringing products such as this into South Africa.

As such, gird your loins, but local retailer Evetech has two Nvidia RTX 4090 GPUs listed as “Coming Soon”.

The first is the MSI GeForce RTX 4090 Gaming X TRIO 24GB. This GPU measures in at 337 x 140 x 77mm and it looks like – from the images on the MSI website at least – this GPU is going to cover three slots. It sports 16 384 CUDA cores, and demands at least a 850W PSU. The MSI GeForce RTX 4090 Gaming X TRIO 24GB carries a price of R48 999 although Evetech has cut that down to R42 999.

The other GPU is the liquid cooled MSI GeForce RTX 4090 Suprim Liquid X 24GB. This GPU, as the name implies, sports a closed-loop cooling solution and features a thinner profile than the MSI GeForce RTX 4090 Gaming X TRIO 24GB. Of course, you still have a radiator and fan to worry about, but at least you’d still have space on your motherboard for additional PCIe peripherals. This GPU carries a list price of R57 999 over on Evetech’s website.

While local retailer Wootware also has RTX 4090 GPUs listed from a range of brands, there is unfortunately no pricing on these items as of time of writing. Wootware does also have RTX 4080 GPUs listed, but there is again, no pricing to be found. We suspect that pricing will only be revealed in November when those GPUs launch. You can browse Wootware’s listings here.

The embargo on reviews is yet to lift but with the launch just days away we expect that before too long your news feeds will be flooded with reviews of Nvidia’s latest tech.

From the pricing of these cards though, it’s clear that these GPUs are aimed at the higher end of PC building enthusiasts.

If you aren’t in the market for a brand new GPU, Nvidia said earlier this year that ahead of the RTX 40-series launch, it would discount existing products to account for the macroeconomic headwinds faced by its channel partners.

We are curious to see whether the so-called crypto winter means that more gamers are able to get their hands on these new GPUs. That having been said, with the size, price and power demands of Nvidia’s latest, we suspect many will be waiting for RTX 4070 and RTX 4060 news.
