Duolingo launches new Math learning app

  • Duolingo launched a new Mathematics education app this week.
  • Duolingo Math will help young kids and adults learn basic mathematics concepts.
  • The app is currently only available for iOS devices.

Having teased a mathematics education app in 2021, Duolingo has now launched Duolingo Math.

You may recognise Duolingo because of its language learning app and it’s now taken the formula that made that experience so successful and applied it to Mathematics.

“Our math app builds on what makes our language app so delightful and engaging: fun animations, interactive exercises, and a world of characters cheering you along the way! We’re particularly excited about the range of inventive exercises we’ve developed to help teach elementary math topics,” the Duolingo team said in a blog post.

“We have two options for new learners when they download the app. Students can focus on elementary math, which covers classroom topics, or adults can focus on brain training, which strengthens mental math skills and covers more advanced topics,” the team adds.

The elementary course covers the following concepts in mathematics:

  • Multiplication,
  • Division,
  • Fractions,
  • Area and Perimeter,
  • Place value,
  • Geometry,
  • Measurement,
  • Decimals.

The Brain Training Course for adults is said to cover similar concepts albeit with increased difficulty and harder numbers.

Each excercise given to learners is specially engineered for the concepts being taught. From the screenshots we’ve seen it appears as if Duolingo Math makes use of the the same easy to understand layout and design language that made the original app so appealing. These include streaks which are rather good at inspiring folks to continue with the lessons they started with.

Unfortunately, the Duolingo Math app is currently only available for Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod via the Apple App Store. The developer also doesn’t mention whether this Math learning app will come to Android.

The Duolingo Math app is also only teaching Mathematics at a Grade 3 level for now. If you are interested in this version of Duolingo, we recommend heading to this URL.
