Edit Tweet is officially rolling out, but remains a Twitter Blue exclusive

  • Twitter announced that it was testing an Edit Tweet feature in September.
  • The feature remains limited to those who have subscribed to Twitter Blue.
  • Subscribers in the US will have to wait a bit longer to access it.

In September Twitter announced that it was testing out an Edit Tweet button in its Twitter Blue Labs environment. One of the most requested features on the social media site, now Edit Tweet is rolling out to users, with a couple of caveats.

As you may have gleaned from our headline, access to this feature is limited to those who have subscribed to Twitter Blue. It is also important to note that it is not available in all regions where Twitter Blue is currently active, with Canada, Australia and New Zealand the only three listed at the time of writing.

Those in the United States will have to wait a while, with Edit Tweet said to be “coming soon” in a notice from the Twitter Blue account.

While it remains to be seen whether Edit Tweet will ever exit the Twitter Blue garden, it looks like the platform is trying to add as many must-have features as possible into its subscription-based offering as it continues to look for new ways to monetise its platform.

With Twitter Blue costing $4.99 (~R88.48) a month, it is on the slightly expensive side, especially for those multiple accounts or indeed accounts that are not owned by companies or brands. As such, there might need to be a little bit more added to the Twitter Blue mix before people feel it is necessary to subscribe.

As a quick refresher on how the Edit Tweet feature works, once a message is tweeted out, you have up to 30 minutes to edit it. Once edited, it will add a label that notes the tweet has been edited and when it happened. It is also worth noting that retweets, replies, threads and pinned tweets cannot be edited.
