FlySafair adds 11 new destinations to its Southern Africa network

  • FlySafair recently had a meeting with the Air Services Licensing Council of South Africa (ASLC).
  • It has since received approval to operate flights to 11 new destinations within the Southern African region.
  • Routes between Johannesburg and Harare, Windhoek and Zanzibar and additional frequencies to Mauritius are still pending.

This week marks a significant development in the expansion of local flight operator FlySafair, as it has been granted the ability to add 11 new destinations to its network across Southern Africa.

This follows a recent meeting with the Air Services Licensing Council of South Africa (ASLC), the company explained in a press release sent to Hypertext.

“Various bilateral agreements exist between South Africa and neighbouring countries which govern the number of weekly flights that can be operated by different airlines in these markets. In South Africa these frequencies are awarded to airlines by the ASLC which is part of the Department of Transport,” it adds.

Moving forward, the operator will now be able to add flights from Cape Town and Johannesburg to Gaborone, Livingstone, Luanda, Lusaka, Maputo, and Victoria Falls to its current lineup of routes. Added to this are flights from Johannesburg to Bulawayo, Nairobi and the Seychelles, as well as between Cape Town and Windhoek.

There are also more destinations in the offing, as applications for routes between Johannesburg and Harare, Windhoek and Zanzibar and additional frequencies to Mauritius are still pending.

“We’re very excited about these opportunities. We’ve been planning our expansion to more regional destinations for some time and are confident that we will continue to bring our same brand of hassle-free travel to passengers in these markets,” enthused Kirby Gordon, chief marketing officer at FlySafair.

“By launching a host of new services, we hope to provide passengers with more options for air travel at a competitive price,” concludes Gordon.

Those interested in flying to the 11 new destinations, should be able to do so from the FlySafair website in the coming days.
