Here’s when Grey’s Anatomy season 19 will be available in South Africa

  • Grey’s Anatomy season 19 is coming to South Africa exclusively through Disney+.
  • The upcoming season introduces a new wave of interns to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.
  • While Disney+ continues to produce highly popular and talked-about series, the version of the service that launched in South Africa has been less than stellar.

Season 19 of the highly popular drama series Grey’s Anatomy will launch exclusively on the Disney+ streaming service in South Africa on the 26th of October 2022.

Disney+ says that the new season will be added alongside all 18 previous seasons of the TV series, making the streaming site “the home of Grey’s Anatomy” in the country.

Season 19 picks up six months after the events of season 18, and introduces a new wave of interns joining the staff at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital – thus the season’s tagline “Begin Again.”

The interns will be played by Harry Shum Jr. (of Crazy Rich Asians fame), as well as Adelaide Kane, Alexis Floyd, Niko Terho, and Midori Francis. All taking up roles of rookie doctors who are no doubt headed towards a pop music-flavoured tornado of love, heartbreak, death and, most importantly, melodrama.

Grey’s Anatomy is among the most popular and longest-running episodic TV series ever. It won the 2007 Golden Globe award for Best Drama Television series and has been nominated for multiple Emmy awards, including for Outstanding Drama Series.

Fans of the show will know that Grey’s Anatomy follows perennial protagonist Meredith Grey, played by the seemingly evergreen Ellen Pompeo, and a team of doctors at a hospital in Seattle who are faced with life and death decisions on the daily.

These doctors, as Disney+ says, “seek comfort from one another, and, at times, more than just friendship. Together they discover that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in black and white.”

Season 19 of Grey’s Anatomy joins Disney+’s spring lineup of titles to stream including The Bear on (5 October), Candy (12 October) and War of The Worlds season 3 (19 October).

In South Africa, a Disney+ subscription goes for R199 per month, with the company saying that there are no hidden costs and subscribers can cancel at any time.

While the streaming service is often the talk of the TV landscape with new series from the Star Wars and Marvel Cinematic Universes, the current state of the version of Disney+ that launched in South Africa has been less than stellar.

As an example, recently we wrote about how simply cancelling our subscription to Disney+ managed to finally resolve the latest issue we had with it.
