Look, we’re not here to talk about the Metaverse or how entering a digital world is on par with real life. Instead, we saw a good deal so we thought we’d shout about it.

Local brick-and-mortar retailer Game has created a game inside of Roblox. The clumsily titled The Black Friday Game Game, is a digital imaging of South Africa life, according to Game.

There are some South Africa-esque assets such as mini-bus taxis, and more pigeons than you expect but sadly the city is fully lit. Not very accurate at all considering the battle with loadshedding.

So why are we talking this up? Well, it’s the end of the month and this year has been tough on our wallets so we think it’s worth shouting out that every day, until 28th November Game is giving away R10 000 in vouchers via Roblox.

By ranking in the top three of the leaderboard in The Black Friday Game Game, you can win a share of this prize pool.

“Players entering the world will be tasked with finding 8 comet fragments (inspired by the retailer’s Black Friday ad campaign) around the city block – and those who are able to do this in the quickest time will win real-world prizes,” Game explained in a press release.

The prizes for placing in the top three are as follows:

• 1st place – R5 000 in Game vouchers
• 2nd place – R3 000 in Game vouchers
• 3rd Place – R2 000 in Game vouchers

That’s not an insignificant amount of money and it could help with the festive season ahead and loadshedding now a permanent fixture in South Africa.

It also helps that there is no limit to how many times you can run this competition so one could find the location of all eight comets and then practice a route to grab them as quickly as possible.

How do you enter?

To start your attempt at winning you will need a Roblox account and the game. Setting up an account was incredibly easy and downloading the Roblox client was fast. You can do both by heading to the Roblox website.

Once you’ve done that, head to this link and click the play button. A dialogue box will ask if you want to launch Roblox, select yes and you’ll be loaded into Game’s game world.

Here you’ll want to search for the comets that are scattered around the map and collect them as fast as possible. When we logged in earlier today the fastest time was one minute and five seconds so competition is fierce.

We should also mention that only 15 players are able to join this game at any time.

Thankfully Roblox is a free game and this contest is free to enter as well. The contest to collect comets runs from today, 21st November, through to 28th November. Game has said that it will keep its game available on Roblox after the contest ends.

The retailer has also said that it will continue investing in the metaverse.

“Rather than a once-off project, we see this platform as an ongoing, integral part of our brand going forward. We are working to ensure we push this kind of innovation forward in our business, and plan to grow this offering,” vice president of marketing at Game, Katherine Madley said in a statement.
