Tshiamo Maluleka-Disemelo is the new ICASA CEO

  • Tshiamo Maluleka-Disemelo will start her position as CEO of ICASA on 1st February.
  • Maluleka-Disemelo previously served as chief audit executive at the authority.
  • ICASA is still searching for a chairperson following the resignation of Dr Keabetswe Modimoeng.

Since August the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) has been searching for a new chief executive officer.

Today the authority announced that it had made an appointment and that person is Tshiamo Maluleka-Disemelo. The new CEO will take over the reigns on 1st February on a five year contract.

According to a press release from ICASA, Maluleka-Disemelo previously served as the chief audit executive (CAE), a position she’s held since 2020.

“In addition to her other qualifications, Ms Maluleka-Disemelo holds a Master of Business Administration Degree from Milpark Business School. She brings nearly two decades of governance, audit, and risk management experience, as well as advanced skills in spearheading executive efforts. In her position as CAE she has collaborated with Council to develop, amongst others, ICASA’s strategic plan, annual and operational performance plans, policies and procedures for managing organisational risks, and as such contributed to the effective management of the organisation,” notes Dr Charley Lewis, acting chairperson of ICASA.

ICASA is also still searching for a permanent replacement for chairperson Dr Keabetswe Modimoeng.

The chairperson resigned in June of last year citing the need to take some time off. In the interim, Dr Charley Lewis was appointed as acting chairperson in July 2022.

The appointment of Maluleka-Disemelo comes just five months after Advocate Nkhetheleni Gidi became acting CEO at ICASA.

“I have enjoyed working and interacting with Adv Gidi over the recent period. I am further grateful that, as he resumes his role as Executive: Policy, Research and Analysis, his skills and institutional knowledge will remain an asset to the team at the Authority,” Lewis concludes.
