Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is free to play this weekend

  • Destiny 2: The Witch Queen is free to all players until Monday.
  • This means everybody has access to the likes of the Vow of the Disciple Raid, Vox Obscura and other activities associated with the expansion.
  • Bungie also provided details regarding pre-load for its next Destiny 2 expansion, Lightfall.

Ahead of the launch of Destiny 2: Lightfall, Bungie has announced that those who missed out of The Witch Queen expansion can get a taste this weekend.

As of right now you can jump into the expansion and all it has to offer including the full campaign, the Vox Obscura Exotic mission, Wellspring, and the Vow of the Disciple Raid.

Importantly, Bungie has said that all loot earned will be yours to keep. We aren’t sure if this includes the Dead Messenger Exotic Grenade Launcher, but it’s worth running the mission just in case.

Access to this content ends at a different time depending on which platform you’re playing on. Xbox players can enjoy this content up until 09:59 AM on Monday 27th February while PlayStation and PC players have until 19:00 PM on Monday 27th February to smite Savathun.

In order to access the content on Xbox, players will need to go to the store to claim access while PlayStation and PC players can simply log in to find the content unlocked.

We highly recommend players take advantage of this offer. The Witch Queen campaign is one of Bungie’s best and the Legendary difficulty adds a bit more weight to the experience than past expansions. This difficulty level will return in Lightfall so it may be a good idea to get acquainted with how tough the experience can be.

The next expansion – Lightfall – launches on Tuesday 28th February and ahead of that Destiny 2 will be taken offline for 24 hours.

Ahead of that downtime, Bungie recommends players collect their rewards including:

  • Seasonal Seals and Rewards,
  • Season Pass Items,
  • Season Vendor Rewards,
  • Shaxx, Zavala, Drifter and Saint-14 Rewards,
  • Banshee-44 Reputation Items.

The pre-load requirements for Lightfall are also worth taking note of, especially if you happen to be on PC. It may just be worth uninstalling Destiny 2 on Monday and then pre-loading if like us you’re storage drive is wanting for space.
