Digify Africa debuts OpenAI-powered learning via WhatsApp

  • Digify Africa and Techsys Digital have announced a learning platform to provide access to OpenAI’s ChatGPT via WhatsApp.
  • The DigiBot platform as it is termed provides learners with access to a wide range of digital skills and training opportunities.
  • The AI has also affectionately been dubbed Didi.

Last week saw a flurry of announcements regarding AI from big tech firms, and in particular solutions designed to mimic or surpass OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Locally, however, companies are not looking to compete, but rather leverage the powers of this platform, which is exactly what Digify Africa has done in partnership with Techsys Digital.

To that end, the pair have announced a learning platform that provides access to OpenAI’s ChatGPT via WhatsApp. This DigiBot platform as it is termed, or Didi, is designed to offer learners a wide range of digital skills and digital training opportunities.

“This latest development from Digify and Techsys continues their partnership goal of providing first-world education and tools to people all over the world, regardless of their location or circumstances,” the pair noted in a press release sent to Hypertext.

“The Digify Africa partnership was the ideal place to trial this groundbreaking technology, with Digify’s DigiBot platform already training hundreds of thousands of learners across Africa in basic digital literacy and skills,” added Rachel McFarlane, MD of Techsys.

Further unpacking Didi’s capabilities, each DigiBot is tailored to specific learning audiences and provides a learning experience that includes gamification, leaderboards, certificates and quizzes. With the integration of ChatGPT, its creators say the platform will offer more personalised and interactive experiences for learners, allowing them to benefit from AI-powered support, and research in real time.

“We are incredibly excited to be the first in the world to bring these two amazing technologies together,” noted Gavin Weale, founder of Digify Africa.

“Our goal has always been to use technology to make education more accessible tto people all over the world, and this partnership with Techsys allows us to do just that. We’re proud to be able to offer this cutting-edge technology to our close to half a million learners and help them on their journey to digital literacy and success,” he concluded.
