HONOR X7a to launch in SA soon: all the details

  • The HONOR X7a mid-range device will launch in South Africa “very soon,” according to HONOR.
  • Battery life is the name of the game for the X7a, which boasts a sizeable 6 000mAh cell, apparently capable of lasting three days on one charge.
  • Among the more affordable HONOR smartphones, it could go for around R3 035 in the local market if international prices are anything to go by.

The end of January 2023 saw the reveal of the HONOR X9a, the latest mid-range smartphone from HONOR in South Africa, and now the Shenzhen, China electronics company has announced the next device it is launching in the local market – the HONOR X7a.

Last month, HONOR told the media to expect more news on the local availability of the X7a and the X8a smartphones, and now it seems some details of the devices are being shared.

Another device in the HONOR X-series, the X7a is all about its massive 6 000mAh battery, which apparently can last three full days after a single charge.

Apart from the battery, the smartphone comes with a 50MP “Quad camera” setup, a 6.74-inch FullView display, and 128GB of storage space.

Camera wise, the X7a has a 50MP Main Camera, a 5MP Wide Camera, 2MP Macro Camera and a 2MP Depth Camera.

In terms of hardware, the phone sports a Mediatek MT6765H Helio G37 chipset, a PowerVR GE8320 GPU and about 6GB of RAM.

With these details in mind, it is safe to say that the X7a will be at the more affordable end of the X-series devices launching in South Africa. The HONOR X9a sells for the price of R11 999 in the local market, but it boasts a more powerful Qualcomm chipset, more RAM, more storage space, and a main camera capable of higher-quality image taking.

HONOR is hoping the large battery life will turn some customers towards the X7a, and has revealed that the smartphone can support up to 22 hours of watching videos, 42 hours of phone calls, 12 hours of gaming, 29 hours of listening to music, or 20 hours of watching on short videos application like TikTok or Instagram Reels.

Further, the X7a has 22.5W HONOR “SuperCharge” fast charging.

According to HONOR, the X7a will be on South African shelves “very soon.” According to pricing in certain international markets, the HONOR X7a could see an RRP of ~R3035,85 in South Africa. If this pricing keeps, then it would be among the more affordable smartphones in the local market, comparable to the POCO C40.

Hopefully, the X7a will manage better performance than the Xiaomi device.
