EcoFlow’s Delta 2 and River 2 backup power solutions arrive in SA

  • EcoFlow has introduced two new backup power solutions to the local market namely the River 2 and Delta 2.
  • The smaller River 2 starts at R6 999 but prices go up to R24 999.
  • EcoFlow solutions can be charged via mains, solar panels and even your car in a pinch.

Despite Eskom making a big noise about six coal-fired power stations having a 70 percent energy availability factor, Stage 3 loadshedding remains in place.

In addition, Eskom has a history of dropping the ball so while things may be looking up at the moment, that could change at a moment’s notice. Backup power solutions then have become a necessity in South Africa and EcoFlow has two new products available in the country as of this week.

These are the Delta 2 and River 2 power stations equipped with high-capacity, fast-charging lithium-ion batteries.

Let’s start with the smaller River 2. This power station has a maximum charge capacity of 265Wh and a rated output of 300W. Those with slightly hungrier power demands may want to consider the River 2 Max with a rated output of 500W and a capacity of 512Wh. According to a release from EcoFlow, charging can take as little as an hour which is great to know for those times when Stage 6 loadshedding gives you four-hour gaps with electricity.

For those who need to run things like fridges, the Delta 2 may be the model you want to consider.

With a total output of up to 1 800W, you could run a TV, your router and even small appliances on the Delta 2 before it broke a sweat. The power solution has a capacity of 1 024Wh and this can be expanded.

Charging this gargantuan battery backup takes as little as 80 minutes through mains or three hours when using EcoFlow’s solar panels. The Delta 2 can also be charged up using a car and it even includes the required cabling in the box.

“South Africa is not the first country we have operated in with power supply challenges nor is it the only one. We have cut our teeth in a variety of markets, which is why we can confidently vouch for the quality of our products. We are thrilled to finally be bringing them to South Africa and know they can make a meaningful impact on people’s lives,” head of LAMEA & APAC for EcoFlow, Joy Wu said in a press statement.

As for pricing, you can see recommended retail pricing below.

  • River 2 – R6 999
  • River 2 Max – R12 999
  • Delta 2 – R24 999

Local distributor for EcoFlow, Rectron, has sent Hypertext a review sample of the Delta 2 and while we’ve only just managed to charge the unit up, that claimed time of 80 minutes already holds true.

We will be putting this review unit through its paces so be sure to check back with Hypertext in the coming weeks for a full review.

In the meantime, you can find these and other EcoFlow products over on the official website.
