• HONOR is making the X7a available to purchase through local retailers, including Telkom, and Vodacom.

In late February, HONOR announced that it was preparing to launch a new mid-range smartphone in South Africa in the form of the HONOR X7a. At the time, a precise launch date and recommended retail price were still in the offing, but that changes today as HONOR confirm that the X7a is now available to purchase in SA.

We will touch on recommended pricing shortly, but let’s first look at what’s on offer from the Chinese smartphone maker.

The big selling point of the X7a is its massive 6 000mAh battery, which HONOR claims can muster up to three days of battery life on a single full charge. Added to this is, in DXOMARK testing, it went for three and a half days. The X7a also supports 22.5W fast charging, which yields three hours of battery life for watching videos from 10 minutes of charging.

Other noteworthy elements include a large 6.74″ (1600×720) display, which houses an 8MP selfie camera in its screen notch. On the rear a quartet of cameras are present – 50MP primary, 5MP wide-angle, 2MP depth sensing, and 2MP lenses.

Looking at the internal components, a quad-core MediaTek MT6765H processor is doing the heavy lifting, with 4GB RAM and 128GB onboard storage. Lastly, supported connectivity tops out at 4G, and dual SIM functionality is available.

As for pricing, the recommended retail price on the HONOR X7a is R5 499. Those looking at contracts, can head to two operators.

“HONOR X7a is available now at Telkom on 24-month installments at R289 on Telkom FlexOn 2 package or Double Deal at R579 on monthly installments for 24 months on the Telkom FlexOn 2,” noted the company in a press release sent to Hypertext.

“Consumers can also purchase HONOR X7a at Vodacom on 24-month installments at R299 on Vodacom 1GB Redcore package or R249 on 36-month on Vodacom 1GB Redcore,” it added.
