For months we’ve been wondering whether the ASUS ROG Ally would arrive in South Africa at a somewhat affordable price and today we have an answer.

Spotted by a Hypertext reader in Google’s search results, the ROG Ally looks to be launching with a price tag of R14 999. Clicking that link will take you to the local ASUS store, but there is no price listed and a note that “price to be confirmed on pre order opening date”.

There is no official word on when that pre-order date for South Africa is.

That price though is incredibly attractive especially when consider that Incredible is currently selling Valve’s Steam Deck for prices starting at R16 999.

The ROG Ally at R14 999, at least according to the Google Search result, is the better of the two iterations of the console. ASUS makes use of both the AMD Z1 and AMD Z1 Extreme system-on-chip for the Ally.

The handheld console sports up to 16GB of memory, 512GB of NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD storage. On graphical duties is an integrated AMD Radeon GPU based on its Navi3 Graphics architecture.

The ASUS Store page claims that the Ally will include three months of access to Xbox Game Pass which is a nice gift for your new gaming PC. Unfortunately we don’t know when locals will be able to get their hands on this console.

Hopefully ASUS throws the rug off of this release before too long and we get some details.

For now, we’re going to start saving our money because not only does the Ally beat the Steam Deck on pricing, with loadshedding set to be a constant burden, a handheld console like this might be just the thing we need to make those four hours power cuts more bearable.
