South Africans shopping for backup power solutions may have another, more powerful solution, from the folks at EcoFlow.

The firm announced the solutions at the GITEX Africa conference today with that solution being the Delta 2 Max power station. Like the Delta 2 we reviewed earlier this month, the Delta 2 Max houses LiFePO4 batteries and boasts an incredible 2 048Wh capacity.

The Delta 2 Max, however, is a lot more robust than the Delta 2 in that it has a maximum output of 3 400W with EcoFlow’s X-Boost technology enabled. This should, according to the firm, power 99 percent of appliances including fridges, ovens and washing machines.

Once the battery is depleted, the Delta 2 Max can draw up to 1 800W from the wall and recharge fully in 81 minutes. Using solar, the Delta 2 Max can be topped up in 2.3 hours given a 1 000W input.

EcoFlow also showed off a range of battery-powered tech including the Wave 2 portable air conditioner and heater as well as the Glacier, a portable fridge freezer.

The Wave 2 looks like a decent solution for a small area especially for a home office in the summer months but it is rather pricey so it’s very much a luxury product.

The Glacier features a 298Wh battery which keeps food cool or frozen and you can even make ice in 12 minutes. The fridge features a 38 litre capacity and could prove useful in South Africa where outages can extend loadshedding blocks without warning.

The Wave 2 and Glacier can all be plugged into the Delta 2 Max although additional batteries can be purchased for each.

There is unfortunately no word on when these products will arrive in South Africa. If they do, expect them to be rather pricey.
