Here’s where to watch the first Spider-Verse in South Africa

After years of waiting Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse finally launches in South Africa (and most of the world) this Friday, 2nd June. Before you watch the new movie it is usually a nice idea to go back and watch the original, 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Of course that means that it’s time to play the guessing game to see where this movie is available to watch with more streaming services and content delivery platforms than ever before.

On that front we have two pieces of good news: one is that we did the guess work for you and checked where the movie is available and two, it’s available just about everywhere.

See below for where you can stream, rent, buy or otherwise watch Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Streaming

Rent or buy digitally

DStv

  • Channel 112 Studio Universal HD | 31st May | 18:00

Despite the aforementioned numerous ways to watch content now – and the messy ownership of Spider-Man between Sony and Marvel / Disney – we’re happy to see the first Spider-Verse movie available just about everywhere. We have to imagine that the huge popularity of the movie, combined with the almost five years since its release, has helped to propagate so far.

If you’re already paying for one of those platforms then go ahead and watch since you’re already all sorted, but if you’re currently not subscribed read on for a few more details.

If you want to watch on DStv the TV guide only lists the 31st May showing at 18:00. There could, of course, be further showings down the line, but it’s best to record it if you can’t catch it “live”.

Moving back to digital renting or buying, we’re surprised to see that the movie isn’t available on the South African version of Google Play. On the other side of things the Amazon store (not the Prime Video streaming service) is also selling Spider-Verse to rent or buy digitally. We didn’t include it in the lists above as this is available to purchase with an Amazon account based in South Africa, but it’s still charging in dollars.

And finally for streaming services it really is up to whatever subscription you currently have active. If you’re currently not subscribed to any we recommend, before buying or using free trials, to check out what the platforms have to offer outside of Spider-Verse.

For example Netflix just released the third season of I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson, so if we had to pick we’d go with that platform for now, but this really is up to your personal taste and what else you want to watch.

As for the new movie we’ll have a review on Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in the next day or two before the 2nd June release. Check back on the home page or follow us on Twitter and Facebook for live updates.
