  • The first official trailer for Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire has landed online, with the original series arriving at the beginning of July.
  • The series will be available to stream from 5th July, featuring 10 animated episodes from studios across the African continent.
  • Five of the episodes feature content from South African creators.

Next month is going to be a rather important one when it comes to African animation, as the original series Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire is set to arrive on Disney+ and available to stream.

The series, which features 10 unique episodes from creators across the African continent, serves up visions of afrofuturism, sci-fi, fantasy. To whet the appetite, the first official trailer for Kizazi Moto has landed online.

The series will be available on Disney+ from 5th July.

“Featuring stories from creators hailing from Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, and Zimbabwe, ‘Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire’ promises to take viewers on an unforgettable ride into Africa’s future, presenting visions of the continent as never before seen,” explains Disney in a press release sent to Hypertext.

“The action-packed animated anthology draws on the continent’s rich and diverse histories and cultures to present 10 sci-fi and fantasy stories featuring bold and brave new worlds of advanced technology, aliens, spirits, and monsters,” it adds.

Stories from South African creators feature heavily in the series, accounting for five of the 10. The full episode lineup is:

  • Stardust (Ahmed Teilab, Egypt),
  • Mkhuzi: The Spirit Racer (Simangaliso “Panda” Sibaya and Malcolm Wopé, South Africa),
  • Hatima (Terence Maluleke and Isaac Mogajane, South Africa),
  • Enkai (Ng’endo Mukii, Kenya),
  • Moremi (Shofela Coker, Nigeria),
  • Surf Sangoma (Nthato Mokgata and Catherine Green, South Africa),
  • Mukudzei (Pious Nyenyewa and Tafadzwa Hove, Zimbabwe),
  • First Totem Problems (Tshepo Moche, South Africa),
  • Herderboy (Raymond Malinga, Uganda)
  • You Give Me Heart (Lesego Vorster, South Africa).

We are eagerly awaiting to see what these creators have served up in Kizazi Moto, but this is not the first time that local talent has been able to make animated offerings available on Disney+.

To that end, we advise listen to our recent africast episode where we spoke to the co-directors behind Aau’s Song, which was one of the originals featured in Star Wars Visions: Volume Two.
