- AMD has announced new Ryzen Pro 7040 processors designed for commercial notebooks and mobile workstations.
- The processors feature an embedded AI engine the firm says will unlocked premium experiences and advanced security features.
- The processors will arrive in HP and Lenovo notebooks starting this month.
The technology du jour for the past few months has been artificial intelligence, but it looks as if, at least if tech firms have anything to say about it, the technology isn’t going anywhere. Case in point is AMD which announced a raft of new mobile processors designed for business notebooks and mobile workstations on Tuesday evening.
The processors in question form part of the newly announced Ryzen Pro 7040 processors built on Team Red’s Zen 4 architecture. The processors also sport the company’s RDNA3 integrated graphics and an all new Ryzen AI engine.
“More than half (52%) of IT managers surveyed say they don’t have the proper technology infrastructure needed to handle AI workloads,” its senior director for its commercial client and workstation division, Matthew Unangst said in a statement. “The new Ryzen PRO 7040 Series pairs incredible performance and battery life to meet the needs of today’s workforce, while also offering a new dedicated AI engine on select models, to help meet the demands of the AI transformation.”
The firm says that in future, the AI engine will give its users access to premium experiences and advanced security features.
As you can see in the product line up below, the company has managed to eke out some impressive performance figures on a comparatively small power budget.
Model | Cores / Threads | Boost Frequency | Base Frequency | Total Cache (MB) | TDP (Watts) | GPU Model | Ryzen AI Engine |
AMD Ryzen 9 PRO 7940HS | 8/16 | Up to 5.2GHz | 4.0GHz | 24MB | 35-54W | AMD Radeon 780M | Included |

AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 7640HS | 6/12 | Up to 5.0GHz | 4.3GHz | 22MB | 35-54W | AMD Radeon 760M | Included |
AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 7840U | 8/16 | Up to 5.1GHz | 3.3GHz | 24MB | 15-28W | AMD Radeon 780M | Included |
AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 7640U | 6/12 | Up to 4.9GHz | 3.5GHz | 22MB | 15-28W | AMD Radeon 760M | Included |
AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 7540U | 6/12 | Up to 4.9GHz | 3.2GHz | 22MB | 15-28W | AMD Radeon 740M |
The firm also showed off new Ryzen Pro 7000 desktop processors which feature integrated RDNA 2 based graphics. Unfortunately there is now mention of integrated AI in these processors.
It says that its Ryzen Pro processors for commercial notebooks and workstations will feature in HP and Lenovo notebooks starting this month.
