Applications open for African Energy Education Fund scholarships

  • The African Energy Chamber (AEC) has announced the launch of the African Energy Education Fund.
  • The Fund is currently looking for applicants for its scholarships, which close on 31st August 2023.
  • The Fund is aiming to attract young people pursuing undergraduate studies in oil, gas, and energy-related fields.

The African Energy Chamber (AEC) has announced the launch of its African Energy Education Fund for 2023.

This annual program is aimed at supporting young learners across the African continent who are pursuing undergraduate studies in oil, gas and energy-related fields.

As part of the 2023 iteration of the program, the application cycle for the awarding of scholarships has been opened up, running until 31st August. After the closing date, the recipients will be announced at African Energy Week 2023, which kicks off on 16th October in Cape Town, South Africa.

“The funds come at a critical time when Africa is witnessing rapid advancements in gas and renewable energy, presenting immense opportunities for economic growth and environmental sustainability,” the AEC highlighted in a press release sent to Hypertext.

“Recognizing the importance of harnessing these opportunities and equipping the next generation with the necessary knowledge and skills, we are committed to providing financial aid and educational resources to talented African students from South Africa to Egypt, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Namibia and across Africa pursuing studies in energy-related fields,” it added.

As far as those wishing to apply are concerned, the AEC explains that, to be eligible for the award, applicants must be under 35 years old and enrolled in undergraduate/postgraduate level studies for any oil, gas or energy-related field.

“The selection process will primarily be based on academic excellence, ensuring that recipients have demonstrated exceptional performance in their studies,” it continued.

The AEC Energy Scholarship Award will also see the recipients receive financial support ranging from $5 000 to $10 000. “This funding is intended to ease the financial burden of pursuing higher education and enable the scholars to focus on their studies and professional development in the energy sector,” the AEC noted.
