Comic Con Africa announces C-3PO and ticket price increase on 1st July

  • Anthony Daniels who portrays C-3PO in Star Wars will be attending Comic Con Africa.
  • Unfortunately ticket prices are increasing from 1st July.
  • Other attendees confirmed for the event include YouTubers The Anime Man and Aki Dearest.

The organisers of Comic Con Africa – which is happening for the second time this year after the event in Cape Town back in April, has a special announcement for Star Wars fans.

The actor who played the iconic golden robot C-3PO, Anthony Daniels will be attending the event happening from 22nd to 25th September at the Johannesburg Expo Centre in Johannesburg.

“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Anthony Daniels to Comic Con Africa,” says Carla Massmann, show director of Comic Con Africa. “His portrayal of C-3PO has left an indelible mark on popular culture, and we cannot wait for fans to meet him in person. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to come face-to-face with a true legend of the Star Wars franchise.”

Other guests which have been confirmed as of time of writing include YouTubers The Anime Man and Aki Dearest.

Now for the bad news.

If you happen to be somebody who waits until the last minute to purchase tickets, doing that for Comic Con Africa this year could prove to be a mistake. The organisers have told Hypertext by way of a press release that ticket prices “are increasing from R190 to R200 for a day pass, and from R660 for a weekend pass to R700 from 1 July”.

That means you may want to purchase tickets ahead of time, especially if you intend to attend for the entire weekend.

With that having been said, we’re holding out to see who else is scheduled to attend the event this year. Of course there will be esports tournaments, and plenty of stalls and activities to participate in throughout the event.

We do intend on heading to Comic Con Africa 2023 and if you’ve never been and are considering it, check out our africast recorded at the event in 2022. Unfortunately loadshedding was also on the go during the event and cut that record short.

With the likes of E3 shuttering internationally and our love for all things geek, we’re going to support the likes of Comic Con and rAge because even though we’re stalwarts and we’ve seen all there is to see, supporting local events helps ensure that the youngsters get to enjoy them as well.
