Eskom promises no loadshedding on Sunday during the day

  • Stage 6 loadshedding will still be in effect until Friday morning, but Stage 4 and Stage 2 are planned for Saturday.
  • Eskom also appears to be planning to suspend loadshedding on Sunday following a week with Stage 6 power cuts.
  • At present 20 300MW of generation capacity is unavailable.

Despite Stage 6 loadshedding being in effect for most of this week, Eskom appears to be planning to suspend power cuts on Sunday during the day.

That means that from 05:00 to 16:00 on Sunday, there will be no loadshedding. We’re trembling in anticipation.

Stage 6 will continue to be in place from 16:00 on Thursday through to 05:00 on Friday morning. The good news is that after midnight on Thursday night, Stage 4 loadshedding will be in effect until 05:00 on Saturday morning. Thereafter Stage 2 will be in effect until 16:00 on Saturday and Stage 4 will be implemented until Sunday morning.

Whether Eskom manages to keep its promise of no loadshedding on Sunday during the day remains to be seen. As of Thursday afternoon, 17 863MW of generating capacity is unavailable due to unplanned breakdowns while 2 437MW of capacity is unavailable due to planned maintenance.

“Over the past 24 hours, a generating unit each at Kendal and Tutuka power stations were returned to service,” the utility reported.

“In the same period, a generation unit each at Duvha and Arnot power stations were taken out of service due to breakdowns. The further delays in returning to service at Arnot, Hendrina, Lethabo, Majuba, Matimba, Matla, Tutuka and two generating units at Camden power station continue to add to the current capacity constraints,” Eskom added.

To keep up to date with the constant changes to the loadshedding schedule, we highly recommend you download the EskomSePush app for your Android, iOS, or HMS smartphone. A recent update added a secret Snake game to the app which you can activate by following the instructions here.
