Game and Makro set for Halfway Day sales this Friday

  • Game and Makro have announced that they will feature sales for Halfway Day in South Africa on 30th June.
  • Game tested on the sales event last year, finding it to be a great success.
  • Game and Makro will be running in-person sales, from 8:00 to 20:00 and 8:00 to 18:00 respectively.

Most South Africans are aware of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which are massive retail sales that preempt the festive season, but there looks to be another event gaining in momentum – Halfway Day.

Last year Game tested out sales on Halfway Day, with the retailer noting that it was a great success, so much so that it has chosen to add to the calendar of another Massmart retailer in South Africa – Makro. Now both retailers are set to host an array of sales this week Friday on 30th June, in a bid to get Halfway Day to gain some traction locally.

“This year, Massmart has taken the decision to extend this sale to its Makro stores, giving more South Africans the chance to shop categories like Electronics, Appliances, Lifestyle, and Essentials at the lowest prices in South Africa for one day only,” the company explained in a press release sent to Hypertext.

“The sale will once again run both in-store and online, on Friday 30 June. In-store shoppers can visit any Game store between 08:00 and 20:00 on the day, while Makro shoppers can shop between 08:00 and 18:00,” it added.

The online version will kick off at midnight on the day, with sales launching on Game and Makro’s respective websites.

As with Black Friday, the items that will go on sale run a fairly wide gamut. According to Massmart, last year saw some of last year’s best-selling products being UHD TVs, notebooks, smartphones, airfryers, gas heaters, and pantry essentials.

“Customers can expect unprecedented prices on items such as gas heaters, air fryers, appliances and food items. Our selection will appeal to those customers shopping for their first home, looking for 32” TVs or those looking for a more experiential TV experience. We also cater for customers looking for products that will keep them warmer over this harsh winter period, including products that could help ease the pain during loadshedding,” highlighted Katherine Madley, Massmart’s VP of Group Marketing.
