The AI-powered Opera One browser is now available in early access

  • The new Opera One has now been available to download on Windows, Mac and Linux as an early-access browser.
  • One of its key new features is a built-in generative AI called Aria that works a lot like ChatGPT.
  • Opera has also integrated the AI into the mobile version of its Android browser too.

The rush to get generative AI-embedded platforms to market shows no signs of showing down as Opera has now made its latest browser – Opera One – available to users to download via early access.

The browser is available to download on most machines running Windows, Mac, or Linux, with the headline-grabbing feature being the embedding of a generative AI tool called Aria. This new AI is also available to access via Opera’s Android browser, the company explained.

“Redesigned from the ground up to usher in a new era of AI-based browsing, Opera One is the first browser to come with an integrated browser AI, Aria. Aria can be reached via a new command line, as well as from the browser sidebar. It offers free access to a leading GPT-based solution along with up-to-date information from the web,” it highlighted in a blog post.

“Based on Opera’s own Composer AI engine, Aria connects to OpenAI’s GPT and is enhanced by additional capabilities such as adding live results from the web. Aria is both a web and browser expert that allows users to collaborate with AI while looking for information on the web, generating text or code, or getting their product queries answered. When it comes to customer support, Aria is knowledgeable about Opera’s entire database of support documentation and uses the company’s current product knowledge to answer users’ questions,” it added.

Accessible via the sidebar, you can also launch Aria in Opera One via a new keyboard shortcut – cmd+/.

Other notable aspects in Opera One include a new modular design in terms of the aesthetic of the browser, as well as a new feature called Tab Islands, which looks to make organisation and navigation easier on the browser.

“Tab Islands are a new way of keeping related tabs together in an intuitive way, based on context – without forcing users to change their habits or to even give it a thought. Users gain flexibility in interacting with their tabs: they can keep different browsing contexts separate, move tabs around, collapse islands to make them small and come back to them later or save them into bookmarks or pinboards,” said Opera of the feature.

As mentioned, Opera One is now available to download, provided you have a compatible device and OS, here.
