Last week Square Enix launched Final Fantasy XVI as its latest iteration in the wildly popular JRPG franchise.

In less than a week in amassed more than three million sales, which is impressive given that it’s a PS5-exclusive, coupled with the fact that the story is a slight departure from previous games, along with being a lot darker in tone than the series is known for.

Regardless, it is proving a success, with a Metacritic score of 88 at the time of writing, showing that it is winning over players and gaming media alike. We too have a review brewing, but before we publish, we thought we’d share some gameplay from Final Fantasy XVI.

Specifically the opening 30 minutes of the game, where we are introduced to the the land of Valisthea, the lore of the Mothercrystals, and our protagonist Clive Rosfield. We also see a pair of Eikon battles between two do different sets of Dominants, which is a key part of the game and one of the best aspects of Final Fantasy XVI from a visual perspective.

Also included in the opening 30 minutes is the basic fighting tutorial, and a bit more history on Clive and the Grand Duchy of Rosaria.
