Kanye West’s X account reinstated

  • Kanye West has had his X account reinstated, after it was suspended in December of last year.
  • The account’s suspension came after he was deemed to have incited violence by posting an image of a Swastika merged with the Star of David.
  • At the time of writing, no new posts have featured since the reinstating.

Courting controversy on a near daily basis, Kanye West (who now legally goes by Ye) is having is X account (formerly known as Twitter) reinstated.

Ye earned a suspension of his account by inciting violence, according to Elon Musk. This after he posted an image on the platform featuring the Swastika merged with the Star of David, which was of course highly triggering for many people.

Musk had to take to the platform to confirm the nature of the suspension, as West also posted an unflattering picture of the then Twitter owner around the same time as the controversial Swastika image.

It is now nearly eight months since the X account was suspended on 2nd December last year. At the time of writing, the official @Ye account is yet to post anything new since the aforementioned date, so it remains to be seen if the artist himself is even aware that his suspension has been lifted.

Perhaps West is easing up on his social media use after being suspended for eight months, but giving how divisive and outspoken he has been in the past, the current silence likely will not last long.

For now, the Wall Street Journal (paywall) reported that the reinstating was only made after Kanye West said he would not post any further anti-semitic material on the platform. The publication also noted that the X account will not be eligible for monetisation, nor will any ads appear next to his posts.

Either way, the coming weeks and months should prove interesting, as the posts and opinions of West will likely push the boundaries of free speech that Elon Musk eulogises on his version of Twitter.
