Nobody is ignoring you, messages aren’t being sent on Slack

  • Slack is currently experiencing an outage affecting messaging on the platform.
  • The outage happened just after 11:00 on Thursday morning.
  • The company is currently investigating the outage and will provide updates when they are available.

At around 11:15 this morning we noticed that messages on Slack simply weren’t sending to other usrs. After much confusion, it turns out that the messaging platform has a problem with its messaging functionality.

“Users may be experiencing trouble with sending messages in Slack. We’re investigating and will let you know as soon as we know more. We appreciate your patience in the meantime,” the company wrote in an incident report you can follow here for updates.

No other functionality appears to have been impacted by this problem although one could argue that messaging is at the very core of Slack’s purpose.

There’s no word on when this problem will be resolved but there are thankfully alternatives that can be used in the meantime. We suspect that here in South Africa that alternative will be WhatsApp given that a recent KnowBe4 report revealed that 89 percent of locals use the platform for work.

We will be sure to update this story as soon as there are further developments.

UPDATE: 11:57 27/07/2023

Slack has now updated its incident report and says that various other features of Slack are no longer working including workflows.

“We’re investigating and will let you know as soon as we know more. We appreciate your patience in the meantime,” the company said.
