Trend Micro partners with NEOM McLaren Formula E team

  • Trend Micro has announced a partnership with Formula E team NEOM McLaren.
  • The partnership is multi-year, with Trend Micro having developed security solutions focusing on EVs in particular.
  • The partnership will begin at the 2023 London E-Prix this coming weekend.

There is clearly a venn diagram when it comes to the worlds of motorsport and IT, as another technology company in the form of Trend Micro has announced its partnership with Formula E outfit NEOM McLaren.

At the time of writing, the length of the partnership has not been disclosed, but it is believed to be multi-year in nature, and officially kicks off at this coming weekend’s 2023 London E-Prix.

Should the Cape Town edition of Formula E return for the 10th season, as was the case for earlier this year, we will be able to see the NEOM McLaren Formula E car racing around the city bowl with the Trend Micro logo featuring prominently on its livery.

“I’m excited to welcome Trend Micro to our team. As we travel around the world, cybersecurity is critically important to us. With Trend Micro we will explore ways to collaborate and keep our operations safe. We are two brands with great synergy, and I’m looking forward to our years of partnership,” noted Ian James, MD of NEOM McLaren Electric Racing in a press release sent to Hypertext.

“Innovation, speed and sustainability are at the core of this Formula E team and Trend Micro. The NEOM McLaren Formula E Team is a perfect match for many reasons including the races being held in the world’s most iconic cities and passionate global fan base. Our organizations have common philosophies and together we plan to accelerate innovation in the industry, accelerate the resilience against cyberthreats and accelerate you,” added said Dhanya Thakkar, SVP of global marketing and sales for the cybersecurity specialists.

As for where there is scope for collaboration or overlap, Trend Micro has been developing security technologies specifically focusing on electric vehicles.

Only a few weeks ago we saw a Formula E team penalised for vacuuming up the tyre data from competitors when pitting during a race, so there is indeed a need for more stringent security solutions, especially as teams look to technology to create advantages on the track.
